ONCOLOGY REHABILITATION: THE PATH TO RECOVERY
The initiative aims to develop an integrated and patient-centered system of oncological rehabilitation in Ukraine. It involves analyzing current practices, studying the experiences of patients and specialists, and strengthening the professional capacity of clinical specialists in the field of oncological rehabilitation.
The Health Sciences Research Foundation has carried out a comprehensive study into the state of cancer rehabilitation in Ukraine. Data from the National Health Service of Ukraine for 2023–2025 were analysed, and surveys of specialists and patients, focus groups with specialists, and individual interviews with patients were conducted. Patient organisations, professional bodies and international experts were also involved in interpreting the results. The project’s findings have established an evidence base regarding the accessibility, organisation, barriers and needs in the field of cancer rehabilitation. The key outcome of the project was an analytical report and an analysis of approaches to integrating cancer rehabilitation into the healthcare system: from early needs assessment and clear patient pathways to the development of multidisciplinary teams, training for specialists, digital navigation tools and improvements to data collection in the Electronic Health Record System.
Goal: The development of an integrated, patient-centred system of oncological rehabilitation in Ukraine through two key areas: analysing the current state of oncological rehabilitation and assessing the experiences and needs of specialists and patients in Ukraine, taking into account international experience; and strengthening the professional capacity of specialists in the field of oncological rehabilitation.
